Billboard Awards and Britney

Sex sells and for our dear Ms.Spears, it has always sold. We don’t ever like to call her performances a “come back,” but Britney showed us this weekend why we still love her despite her crazy streaks. At the recent Billboard Awards the dynamite duet Rihanna featuring our lovely Britney Spears performed the chart-topping S&M. S&M is of course RiRi’s original hit, but to steam the windows of your car, the hit became a collaboration with our babe Britney. The performance showcased both divas tearing up the stage with sexiness, which apparently crossed a line for some folks at home watching—parents to be specific.

To be honest, Spears always gets spicy (we all remember the French kiss with Madonna and Britney, right?). ABC didn’t air this part of the performance, but thank heavens for photographers, because B and Ri smooched on stage too. So, what’s the big deal now?

Apparently parents don’t want ABC airing Rihanna and Britney in tight clothes with whips and chains. When I put it that way, it sounds like a reasonable concern. At the same time, what did everyone really expect? For our darling Britney and fierce Rihanna to come out in moo-moo’s singing the Barney theme song?

Let’s cut Britney slack. Doesn’t she deserve it? Our starlet has had her ups and downs (a understatement to say the least), but this performance is not one of the downs. I would argue that these parents have probably heard S&M prior to the on-stage performance at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. My bet is anyone who hasn’t heard the song S&M on the radio isn’t watching the Billboard Awards live anyways.

Any song with the lyrics “sex in the air and I like the smell of it,” has sultry sex-on-stage performance written all over it and we like it.
